“Know then, that Trieste is a very beautiful city, and that the beasts are very beautiful beasts.”
Sigmund Freud, in a letter to Eduard Silberstein, 28th March, 1876

Site-specific work for The Freud Museum, London as part of the RCA exhibition Einfall. The work explores a little known period of Freud’s life, when, at 19, he assisted on a project to discover the reproductive organs of the eel at the Laboratory for Marine Zoology in Trieste. Illustrated letters to his childhood friend from this time are odd and very charming. I wanted to put something from his youth into the house where he spent his last days.
